I have to write this back to back? There was no waiting for the guy ahead of him to falter tonight. Commodore Kirk was untouchable. Nobody beats me four races in a row. I am kind of feeling like Federer, if you know what i mean. Great night, husbands and wives, and though I hate to say it, the Irish kicked the Scots kilts on this evening. Look out ladies I'M wear my skirt next week.   - David Menges

7/9/2008 Wow, what a night, and what a night for Commodore Kirk. Wiley veteran that he is, he spent the night just waiting. As the leading boat ahead of him succumbed to the forces of nature he pounced . Stealing first from Crashing Commodores of the past, he scooted past a swimming Dave Barger in the second race to grab his first bullet of the night and past a sunken Dave Menzies in the last race to grab his second bullet of the evening. Though opportunistic, it is important to note that Commodore Kirk may have been the only sailor to never go swimming on this challenging evening. It was great to have Rob Churchill and his uncle Dave out there tonight as well as Eric Hall and Colin Robinson. Rob got his first bullet of the 2008 season. It was an Evening of Carnage. I busted a rudder post before the first race and limped in only to return in the third and Eric Hall had a horrific time out there, breaking his vang, losing a rudder and limping in after the fourth race. Eric will live to sail another day.  Thanks for coming out. Nights like tonight are why we love to sail.

5/28 And the winnner is....me.  It has been kind of a cold spring and so the lasers have been off to a slow start. We had a great practice night a couple of weeks ago, Newcomers to Lasers, Greg Stenta and Denny Sutherin and I went out and did some practice races. We had a great night, look out gang, Greg was fast. Deny had trouble translating hobbie angles into laser angles but that will come quickly.
Tonight we had a great fight between Eric Hall, Kirk Kelly and Myself with additional intrepid Mommadore Brook Kelly and Matt Hartnagle. Ask Kirk and you'll get the woulda, shoulda, coulda on the first race, but that last tack can be a bitch. In the second it was almost a horizon job. I honestly cannot tell you how much fun it is to be out there. As we headed in, the sun was about going down and all was right with the world. Where would you rather be? Please come out and join us! Then we headed for my favorite watering hole, and I ought to know cause I spend enough time there, to be greeted by a hip hip hoorey, to relax with friends, Melanie, Rick, Lee, David, Terry, Betsy, Tom, Hanna "can I have my hat back", Tagert" forgive the spelling please", Michelle, Tim and Mark. LIFE IS GOOD on Wednesday Nights at CLYC.

Laser fleet meeting was held on April 20. In attendance were Mark Johnson, Kirk and Brook Kelly, David Hyland and David and Cilla Menzies and Craig Seger.  The following are minutes of the meeting.

1. David Menzies was elected Fleet Captain for the 2007 season replacing David Hyland.

2. Concerning Racing,  the Fleet will continue the current Handicapping system.

When there are more than 5 boats sailing, every other race is handicapped, with top three finishers from the previous race handicapped. The handicap for a one lap race is 30 seconds, for a two lap race, 45 seconds. Handicapped will start either 30 or 45 seconds after the regular 3 minute start.

Additionally, Race Committee will be instructed to be prepared to assist any boat which has capsized even in the event that they will have to allow boats to finish without race committee present. Racer will agree to finish place if race committee is not present. if this is not possible, the racers will be recorded as tying.

3. A request was made to move weekly racing to Thursday nights. The issue was discussed and table for further consideration.

4. Mark Johnson has agreed to be in charge of  trophies which will consist of an award of Monthly 1st place and at least 2 other awards to acknowledge performance of 2 other sailors in the fleet.  Additionally, Mark has agreed to be in charge of  PR for the fleet to include photos and articles for the Post Journal.

5. Concerning raising funds: It was agreed that the Laser fleet would raise money by seeking a donation of $10 from any club member racing in a fleet race. these funds are to defer the costs of hosting the District 9 Regatta and fleet trophies.

6. The CLYC Laser District 9 regatta is scheduled for June 30. Mark your calendars and plan on a beautiful day of laser sailing to be followed by an afternoon and evening of dancing and drinking at the Pool Party. We are sailors after all.

Racing starts Wednesday Night, May 2, so get you wet suits on and lets get out there.  All Sailors are encouraged to come out.
